On our partner downloads site, we just published a new version of our base VMware appliance which you can install DC-X on in a matter of minutes. (Well, after all downloads have finished…) This new version runs PHP 5.3, a requirement for the latest version of DC-X.
We have updated the installation instructions (DCX_INSTALL_latest.pdf) and appliance documentation (DCX_README_latest.pdf) as well as the bundle of test data (DCX_Testdata_latest.tar).
On this appliance, you can install older versions of DC-X or the latest development snapshot (digicol-dcx-redesign.200907.tgz) of the new user interface (which even includes the experimental upload tool).
For all of our partners, we’re providing a VMware virtual machine and the DC-X installer on our download site (if you’re a partner and don’t have the download link and password yet, just send us an e-mail):
The virtual machine runs Linux and comes with all the software that DC-X needs to run. (Take your time when downloading it, it’s a 1.5 GB bzip2-compressed tar file…) A file called DCX_README.pdf describes exactly how we set up that machine.
The DC-X software comes as a separate .tgz file (currently 44 MB). Then there’s a DCX_INSTALL.pdf file telling you how to install DC-X on that virtual machine: It’s very easy and requires just three commands on the Linux shell. (Installing on other servers is going to take a little more effort.) We also packaged some sample data in DCX_Testdata.tar which you can feed into DC-X very easily (just copy it into the VM and unpack it in the right directory).
We’re separating the Linux VM and the DC-X installer because we want to make it easy for you to start from scratch when a new DC-X version comes out: Just make sure to create a VMware snapshot before you first install DC-X, so that you can always return to a fresh machine and restart the whole installation process.
Note: New DC-X versions may require a new VM version if we’re adding software dependencies… We’ll let you know on this blog when this is the case.
Thanks for testing DC-X!
